The Ranchobot Challenge 2022 was held on May 21st, 2022 at Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Dr, Rancho Cordova. Nine out of team teams participated in the competition while the tenth team could not attend the competition due to the conflict. The team coaches were debriefed about the program rules. Council Member Siri Pulipati welcomed the teams, shared the reason for the introduction of the Robotics program in the City and how this program increases creativity, develops designing Engineering and team building skills and engages the students in STEM and started the competition.

The robotic teams were stationed in American Conference rooms and the competition was held in the City Council Chamber. The robotics teams competed in three different easy to complex line follower challenges in the morning. The Sumo-Bot Wrestling was conducted in the afternoon. The ten teams were formed into two groups for Sumo-Bot Wrestling.  The teams in the groups competed first in round robin fashion. Next the top two teams in Group A competed with the top two teams in Group B as part of the semi-final round – the first place team in Group A competed with the second place team in Group B for three times and the second place team in Group A competed with the first place team in Group B for three times. The top two teams of the semi-final competed three times to decide the final winner and runner-up teams. 

All the teams have done a wonderful job both in line follower and sumo-bot challenges. The scores of the line follower and sum-bot challenges are combined to decide the top three winners of the Ranchobot Challenge. The combined standings of the teams are presented below.

Councilmember Siri Pulipati congratulated the winners and participating teams and presented the trophies to the top three teams, best engineering notebook award and participating trophies to the rest of the teams.  The top three teams, engineering notebook winner and rest of the participating teams were also presented cash awards. The team pictures with and without family members and group pictures were taken. The entire competition was also recorded.

The local FTC teams showcased their robot and its missions while the First Lego League team presented the overview of the program and how it helped them in excelling in STEM.

In partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova, Suvidha International Foundation is organizing a Robotics Competition for 6th through 8th grade students. Thanks to the City’s Community Enhancement Fund.

The robotics competition is free for Rancho Cordova’s middle school students.

The competition can accommodate 10 to 16 middle school teams and each team can have 5 to 8 students. The participating teams will be given robot kits. The competition consists of Sumo Bot Competition and Line Follower Competition. The top three teams will receive prizes.

It is expected that each team will have an adult coach and adult assistant coach. The coaches can be parents/guardians’ of the team members. The coaches will be given training and provided support as needed.
